Alaska Photographic Center: MENADELOOK - An Inupiat Teacher's Photographs of Alaska Village Life 1907-1932

      3/20/2018

      7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20

Eileen Norbert presents on the book, MENADELOOK, which showcases nearly one hundred photographs taken by Inupiat photographer Charles Menadelook and documents life in Wales, in the Bering Strait between Alaska and Russia, in the early twentieth century. Photographs of Inupiat life in this period are rare, and photographs taken by an indigenous person are nearly nonexistent. These photographs provide a view into Inupiat lifeways during the early decades of the last century and give both a pictorial and Native perspective on Inupiat traditions and historical events. Use museum's 7th Avenue entrance.
