      Alaska Botanical Garden Summer Camp

      ABG Summer Camp 2018 Monday, June 4th 2018 through Friday, August 3rd 2018 (no camps the week of July 4th) Half Day Price (per child/per week) 9:00am- 12:30pm: Members $135, Non-members $150 Full Day Price (per child/per week) 9:00am-3:30pm: Members $225, Non-members $240  Please read through, sign and return the ABG 2018 Summer Camp Policies and ABG Summer Camp 2018 Camper Information The Alaska Botanical Garden Summer Camp is designed for ages 6-12 years old. All camps take place in our unique garden classroom and on 110 acres of natural Boreal Forest! Staff as well as guest speakers help lead campers through fun, hands-on, science-based environmental education activities. Each unique camp repeats throughout the summer offering a chance for your child to go in depth into the subjects that interest them the most! Campers need to bring extra clothing layers, good hiking shoes, hat, water bottle, bug spray, snack and or lunch if staying a full day. All camp materials are provided as well as weekly take-home projects. Dates and Themes: Growing Gardeners: July 9th-13th  What better way to learn about gardening than inside of a Botanical Garden? If your child has a green thumb than this is the camp for them! Campers will create unique raised bed and container gardens by studying the basics of garden design. They will learn the science behind soils, fertilizers, and compost to keep their plants happy and healthy all growing season. The Artful Gardener I and II: June 11th -15th and July 16th -20th There are endless creations we can glean from the natural world around us. Come and join our camp for an entire week devoted to the arts! Campers will learn how to create art from nature with beautiful botanical drawings, leaf molds and casts, photography, sun prints, and floral arranging. Gardens are the perfect setting to inspire the budding young artist! The Young Botanist I and II: June 18th-22nd and July 23rd-27th Let your child become the expert on your next camping and hiking trip! Students will explore 110 acres of gardens and Boreal Forest learning to identify native plants, weeds, the traditional and medicinal use of plants, beneficial insects, local pollinators and critters living in nearby Campbell Creek. Let the inner naturalist in your child blossom in this awesome week long camp! Garden Chefs I and II: June 25th- 29th and July 30th – Aug 3rd This camp is for the little chef in your life! Students will learn how to plant and care for a raised bed vegetable garden while learning to prepare and cook with fresh produce. Each day campers will learn to make a healthy plant based snack, practice measuring ingredients, follow a recipe, and learn about key nutrients our bodies need. Come and explore the tasty side of plants! FAQs What's the refund policy? Class registrants who cancel two weeks or more prior to the start of camp will receive a full refund, minus a $10 cancellation fee. Cancellations less than two weeks from the start of camp are non-refundable but can be transferred to another camp session based on availability. Please consider your payment a donation to the Botanical Garden. Refunds are not given for missed days or early pick-ups.Camps cancelled by the Botanical Garden due to low enrollment or other circumstances will be fully refunded. You will be notified as early as possible if a camp is cancelled. Botanical Garden staff will try to contact participants by phone or email so please provide accurate contact information when registering for classes. The Botanical Garden is not responsible for lack of notification if not provided with accurate contact details.
